The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 On that day the trumpet will be sounded and you will come (to Us) in huge groups. 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30

كيف تعمل منظومة تمارين الحفظ؟ عند أدنى مستوى 0، تكون كل الكلمات ظاهرة. بينما يُخفي أعلى مستوى 9 كل الكلمات. فكيف تعمل المستويات المتوسطة، مثل 3، على سبيل المثال؟ قد تعتقد بأن المنظومة تخفي 3 من كل تسع كلمات بدقة. ليس تماما! في المستوى 3، لكل كلمة فرصة اختفاء بنسبة 3 من 9، و6 من 9 لتكون ظاهرة. بمعنى آخر، من الممكن، ولكن باحتمال شبة معدوم، أن تكون جميع كلمات المستوى 3 مخفية، أو أن تكون جميعها ظاهرة! وكذلك أيضًا، ففي المستويات المتوسطة، وبما يتناسب مع مستوى الصعوبة، يمكن أن تكون المخابئ غير كاملة أو شفافة جزئيًا بحيث تظهر الكلمات جزئيًا تحتها.
How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
