The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 And made the night a cover. 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 and persistently rejected Our revelations. 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
