The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 Of the mighty tiding 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 We raised over you several secure (skies), 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
