The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 a return for the insolent, 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30

Notes and Instructions
When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
