The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 About which they differ? 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 The rebels' abode, 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
