The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 And by those who gently draw out the souls of the blessed, 2 by those that swim serenely 3 and the outstrippers (angels), outstripping, 4 and thus they fulfil the [Creator's] behest! 5 On the day when the first trump resoundeth. 6 to be followed by further [convulsions], 7 Hearts, that Day, will tremble, 8 Cast down will be (their owners') eyes. 9 The disbelievers say, “Will we really return to our former state?” 10 “When we have become decayed bones?” 11 and they say, "That indeed would be a losing return." 12 But verily, it will be but a single (Compelling) Cry, 13 and then, lo, they will be fully awakened [to the truth]! 14 Hath there come unto thee the story of Musa! 15 Lo! His Sustainer called out to him in the twice-hallowed valley: 16 and directed him: “Go to Pharaoh, he has rebelled, 17 And say to him, "Would you like to reform yourself? 18 I shall guide you to your Lord so that you may perhaps have fear of Him". 19 And thereupon he [went to Pharaoh and] made him aware of the great wonder [of God's grace]. 20 but he denied it and refused [the faith]. 21 and then he turned back to have recourse to his craftiness, 22 And assembled (his council) and proclaimed, 23 Yet to a rich man, 24 Allah therefore seized him, in the punishment of this world and the Hereafter. 25 surely there is in this a lesson for the God-fearing. 26
