He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you attend to him, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And he feareth 9 you ignore him. 10 Not this way this is the advice. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted and holy, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and pastures 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
