He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 you attend to him, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And hath fear, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
