He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 olives, dates, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
