He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 olives, dates, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 and his mother and his father; 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
