He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
