He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
