He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 you attended to him, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
