He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 So you are after him! 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
