He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 olives, dates, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
