He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and in awe of God 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olives and palms 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
