He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And whereas he fears, 9 you ignore him. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
