He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and who has fear of God, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olives and palms 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and herbage 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
