He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 You pay full attention, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And he feareth 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Not this way this is the advice. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 most exalted and purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
Almighty Allah's Truth.
