He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted and purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 olives, dates, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing and joyous 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
