He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
