He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 So you are after him! 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble and pious. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 Olives and dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
