He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 So you are after him! 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And he feareth 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and palms 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and grass, 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
