He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you attend to him, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fearfully, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble, pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and olives and palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
