He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and grass, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
