He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 lofty and pure, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
