He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and who has fear of God, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
