He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 you attended to him, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 olives, dates, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
