He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and pious. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Not one he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
