He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and fearfully, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 fruits, and grass. 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
