He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
