He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
