He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
