He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And he fears, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 and covered by darkness. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
