He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you attend to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and fears (Allah), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted and purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 mother, father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
