He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And he fears, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olives and palms 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
