He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And hath fear, 9 you ignore him. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
