He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and fearfully, 9 You neglect. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 Olives and dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
