He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you attended to him, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And whereas he fears, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
