He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 You pay full attention, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olives and palms 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
