He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fearfully, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And produce therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
