He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and in awe of God 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
