He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fears (Allah), 9 You neglect. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
