He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And he feareth 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
