He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
