He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 On honoured leaves 13 uplifted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Dust shall cover them 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
