He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 olives, dates, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
