He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And hath fear, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 On honoured leaves 13 most exalted and purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
