He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And whereas he fears, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 On honourable pages. 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
