He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 with darkness overspread: 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
